Problems with S-Plus License

Many of you have had problems due to the very non-robust nature of the S-Plus license. Insightful Corp has responded to our complaints by providing serial numbers and LACs that are more robust. I cannot post these on the web, but I will distribute them in class.

Kevin Lo has discovered that you do not need to re-install S-plus and Finmetrics to make use of these robust serial numbers and LAC. Here is Kevin's trick.

• Go to the folder where you installed S-Plus
• Open the folder named "adm" then the folder named "lic" then the folder "keys".
• Inside this folder is the licence key (it is a ".lic" file type) that is generated when you register a licence code.
• You can just delete this (or be safe and cut and paste it onto your desktop).
• When you start up S-Plus again, it will not find this license file so automatically pops up the registration wizard to help
• You register your S-Plus as before.
• This method saves the hassle of uninstalling and reinstalling the entire software package.
