As everybody here knows, Dan Berry's thoughtful Statistical Science and scholarly article provides a lovely reprise of John's personal, educational and scientific career.

It also a fine picture of John as an assistant professor and as a tobogganing grandfather.

I am sure it was only the CIA's request that kept him from disclosing the mujahidin connection.

Let's Just Look at Some Reflections

• University of Sydney, B. Sc. 1959 ----- which reflects to 1909

• Princeton Ph. d 1962 --- which reflect to 1915.

• Various fiddling around --- no need to reflect, except for some additional time a Princeton ... about which more later.

• Yale Full Professor, 1972, --- reflects to 1935.

Hold it ... You mean that 1972 was as close t o1935 as 1972 is to the present. Yes, sadly, it is true.
