Statistics Minor Program Overview

The minor is a seven course minor consisting of:

(1) a required math pre-requisite

(2,3) two semesters of introductory statistics,

(4) a required core course, and

(5,6,7) three electives.

The courses are detailed here, and students will meet with the concentration advisor in Statistics to determine appropriate course selection.

Students may count courses toward the Statistics Minor and their major (or minor) requirements as approved by their schools and major/minor departments.

The minor description gives course requirement detail.

The minor in statistics will develop the skills and insights required for data analysis and the interpretation of data through quantitative methods. Statistics provides the knowledge needed to select and apply techniques and to communicate results. Interpretation in realistic applications offers guiding examples; theory is used to generate and compare alternative schemes. All courses provide skills that augment substantive managerial abilities, along with exposure to computer software that implements key techniques. This preparation is appropriate for students intending to enter the professional workplace, both profit and nonprofit, or for those contemplating future graduate academic work, especially in the social sciences.
