Notes Concerning the Final Examination

Our final exam will be on Friday December 20 from 9am to 11am. This is determined by the university exam scheule and we have no flexibility.

During the last week of class I will post further details on the content of exam, but as far as structure goes:

• The exam will be closed book.

• You can bring a formula sheet.

• You should not have any open communication devices (e.g. no cell phones or computers).

• You will have no need for any calculators; arithmetic will be kept to a minimum.

In the meanwhile, the best way to prepare yourself is to ...

• Engage the homeworks as actively as you can. Mastery of the homework is the best way to master the material.

• Engage the reading as actively as you can. This means asking yourself questions and sorting out the answers for yourself.

• You are already a master of "similarities and analogies" add to this strength by searching for distictions. If two things are similar, seek out their differences. This is one path to a more refined understanding of material of almost any kind.
