A Message to Faculty and Staff
About Student Mental Health Services

From

President Amy Gutmann
Provost Vincent Price
Executive Vice President Craig Carnaroli

The health and safety of our students is a primary concern to all of us at Penn.  When mental health issues arise for students, they often do not know where to turn, and a trusted faculty or staff member can make an important difference in getting them the help they need.

Mental health is a topic that can be uncomfortable to discuss.  As a result, many people, including college students, may not seek help when they are feeling distressed. We are writing to remind you of the extensive support services that are available at Penn if you become aware of students who need assistance.

While this information has been conveyed to students regularly, in many different forms, we want to make sure that faculty and staff are also aware of the programs that are in place.    We hope you will join with us in helping students stay informed of the support that is available to them at Penn.

Our message to students is unwavering: “You are not alone. Tell a friend, talk to an advisor, reach out to a trusted staff member, faculty member, or your family. Support is all around you.”  Each of you is an important part of that support network.  Working together, we can ensure a safe and healthy environment for every Penn student.
