Why Didn't I Think of That?

"Sometimes an idea can seem so obvious, and so obviously good, that you can’t quite imagine why no one has ever done it before." --- from Attitude's review of Madonna in Art, a bankable coffee table-book that has got to be worth one free sabbatical.

Madonna in Art seem within almost anyone's creative and scholarly reach, but there are other "why didn't I think of that" works that would still be best left undone, unless done by a dedicated master.

Valerie Allen's New Book Gets Rave Review

"Allen writes with such a combination of wit, imagination, and erudition that scholars will wonder, ‘Why didn’t I think of that?’ and the more general reader will be drawn towards a vision of the past that is lively, courageous, and profound.”-- R. Howard Bloch, Sterling Professor of French, Yale University

"Courageous" seems particularly apt. I almost hesitated to put up a link. Then I thought, "Hey, this is from Palgrave, leaders in scholarly publishing --- especially in economics."

So, there you have it: a changing world full of courageous scholars. Some are more openly fascinated with school yard themes than others will admit, but to each his (or her) own.
