2. Recap class 3

Last class we introduced three new types of relationship (function). Class 2 had focused on linear relationships.

You should now be familiar with the following 4 functions:

Linear: $y = f(x) = a + b\,x.$

Power. $y = f(x) = a \, x^b.$

Exponential. $y = f(x) = a\,e^{b\,x}.$

Log. $y = f(x) = a + b\,ln(x)$.

You will invariably use your calculator to calculate them (the Windows calculator is fine for this).

Today's class makes use of the all the functions we examined last time; powers turn up in geometric series, the exponential function in continuous compounding and the log function (ln) is needed to solve some of the problems.
