6.3 Turning the question around

Here's how we could represent the relationship between education, experience and salary:

\begin{picture}(13,6)
\put(1,4){\vector(2,-1){3}}
\put(0,4.5){\textcolor{blue}{E...
...put(8,2){\vector(1,0){3}}
\put(9,2.5){ \textcolor{green4}{Salary}}
\end{picture}

Of course, it's not obvious exactly how the relationship works. Often, one of the roles of the analyst is to empirically determine the form of the relationship, that is, find what goes in the box. Mathematical and statistical modeling are the disciplines that address this fundamental question.
