Preface

R was not a popular choice for introductory stat when Dean Foster and I wrote the first edition of our book. It wasn’t very popular when we wrote the second edition either. That’s changed with the surge of interest in business analytics. R has become a go-to choice for students from undergrad through MBA to PhD. Hence this companion to accompany our book.

Each chapter of this companion goes with the similarly numbered chapter of our text. The data for the examples is available with the book, or you can find use the links supplied in the chapters to access the data from our web site.

You will need to install R on your computer in order to run the examples shown here. I use the version provided by R-Studio, but you can run the examples without that software as well. I expect these notes to expand over time; there’s much to be learned about R beyond these examples.
